As he stood by the river bank, his elbows on the railings with his palm supporting his cheek and preventing his heavy head from falling off his body, he decided to take a last introspection as his mind had been made up to end that which he didn't create, his life!
The universe had been his friend since childhood, he had it all, or at least he had all that mattered to him. A family that cared, a sane environment, and friends that would stay for all time.. Yes, he had all that mattered to a boy his age.
No one had told him life was not always going to be a bed of roses, no one told him it would not always be smiles and no worries, he was made to learn from experience that nothing lasts forever, and every one at a point or the other would have his own taste of what life could really be..
Still at the river bank, buried in his thoughts, he recalled on how he had been eager to be a grown-up and make major decisions without being policed around by his folks, life watched from a corner waiting for his wish to come true and saying 'be a man,I'm waiting for you'
He became a man as he had always hoped to be, oh! how sweet to be finally free, free to make decisions for himself, his circle grew larger, his dreams unfolded as he had imagined, he had "peace". Life was indeed a bed of roses, woe unto those who said its not, so he thought..
Life then eventually came with its strictness and lack of pity, it came in its entirety with thorns, whips, unfairness. Life hit him so hard he felt worthless, his pride, self esteem, confidence, prowess and dignity all took a dip and his world became blank!
Life had taken its toll on him and he could not see anything getting better anytime, any day. He lost himself totally, his dreams became an impossible mountain to climb, staying up most nights, he thought of nothing else but a way out, a way to end his misery at once.
Right there at the river bank, with his thoughts split between taking a leap to the other side or giving life one more chance, he thought about people who had gone through worse situations and are still loyal to life, winning. He thought of the reasons he would want to hold on even when there is more than enough reasons to give up, he thought about the sweet scent of triumph over life's challenges, he thought about how strong he would be if he held on, he thought about being a king someday and knew all he had to do was stay alive, the odds were not balanced, but he took a leap of faith, left the riverside and decided to give himself another chance with Life!!
Dedicated to everyone who is going through depression at this time, suicide should not be considered an option, challenges should make us tough not break us to shreds because in the end, if we stay alive, we would become kings!
All will be well eventually.
Great...thanks alot
