TOMORROW'S CURSE - AN ENLIGHTENING PIECE BY AKINADE TEMIDAYO JACOB

As he laid on his sick bed, he gazed endlessly at nothing.
His right leg calmly placed on the left, and his palms in the same order too.
The room would be quiet as a necropolis but for the whizzing sound of the fan.
Everything feels perfect, he felt better than the day immediately before today and had better hopes for the days after.
He had every second in the globe to himself, doing nothing but introspecting.
So lost in the moment he barely heard the footsteps of the mini crowd which thronged in to wish him well. So far, life had been nothing short of great, for he had had his good times outnumber the evil days. As he drowned in his cerebration, like a play from the arts, his life's journey took a steep stroll down Memory Lane.

Tears rolled down freely his wrinkled face as he began his journey through the path, for even though he was loved by many so much that they made his effigy, he fought a battle of a great evil in his mind and peace became an enemy as he struggled to evade his own thoughts.
What would life had been without the powers he wielded, both politically and in wealth? He indeed lived like a god, he had eyes on all and sundry like the omnipresent, his tentacles spreads both in the menage and away, he had stooges who were loyally sired to him or be irrevocably crushed by his majesty. He had allies strong enough to pull down a country's system of administration. His words were always the basics to go by, unchallenged and unquestioned.
Still on his thoughts, nature took its course and dragged him to sleep, even while so, he continued his journey through that memory path. For reasons unfathomable, his past kept pace with him and he was lost in his own battle with no aid, no aides. He recalled all he had done to be where he was at the moment, the soils he had to do dip his hands in order to access the summit of his calling ,the destinies that he trampled upon as ladders to his accomplishments, even though he had worthy appraisals from the naive majority, it was only so because all cats are grey in the dark,he alone knew they were all a facade.

Arrows of his deeds kept coming in all charges, he toiled even in his sleep, profusely sweating as he kept on wishing he could undo the past. The lives that could have been better by his recommendations, the egos of those whom he rode on so much that they would remain damaged for all time, in this moment, no amount of wealth and power could soothe his misery, he craved peace but found it not...
Tomorrow is indeed, a curse. It comes with a reward for whatever we do today, whether good or otherwise, throwing the exact fruits of what seeds were sown right back at us, and we, without options, reap them graciously or with regrets.. When we consider the consequences of our actions before indulging in them, we not only live a better today, but also eschew a horrible tomorrow. Whatever costs or may cost you your peace of mind is too expensive, avoid it.
