THE EFFECTS OF THE CORONA VIRUS ON RELIGION AND WORSHIP PLUS PUBLIC VIEWS.

Restrictions on public worship have been one of the unfavorable consequences on worship centers and several religious practices since the lockdown effects of the CoronaVirus pandemic. Worship centers were closed down as well as all other public places to curb the spread of the virus by limiting social gatherings and congregations. Religious centers in major cities all over the world had to adhere to the rules and some who had the facility have since been holding their services and having their teachings online and via other media outlets in order to still be in touch with their congregation. In some states now though, measures have been put in place and public centers of worship are opening up gradually but in some places especially places with really high records of COVID19 cases, public worship centers are still locked down. Muslims are still able to pray from home and in some places there are options of going to Mosques and the number of people allowed in a Mosque at a time is limited and they also take several quarantine measures as well. Churches however in some places are also opening up gradually with a limited time for service as well as a limited number of congregation allowed in a service amidst other quarantine measures being put in place. All these are to protect the people especially the elderly and the younger ones whose immune system may be weaker from coming in contact or contracting the Corona Virus.

Now there has been an uproar as well as several arguments amongst religious practitioners against the continuous close down of the religious centers despite the quarantine measures already set in place for the public. A lot of people have really missed going to their Churches and Mosques for their religious activities and worship. Personally, I feel these gatherings are not only religious gatherings but also social gatherings as they give people the opportunity to socialize and have some outdoor experience even whilst also going about their religious duties and growing their spiritual lives and I think this is what these people miss. A lot of people are arguing that there is nothing stopping religious centers from being opened up since markets, businesses and some public places have also opened up and are running fine. Some people also feel that keeping religious centers locked is a deliberate attempt by the government to sabotage religious practices while using the CoronaVirus as an excuse. A lot of the public spaces currently opened are actually more crowded than they ought to be but they just had to be opened so business can go on and people can feed and take care of themselves in my opinion and a lot of people are actually also abusing this by not taking adequate safety measures.

I also do understand that worshipping from home may not be as interesting as it would have been from our various worship centers but I am pretty sure that God sees us irrespective of where we are and He will accept your worship regardless so what is important is that you are actually doing it irrespective of where you are doing it from. Let us not also forget that God instructed us to obey the laws of the land so disobedience to it would actually be a sin and may render our worship unacceptable,. what we can ask for however, is for God to heal the land and once that is sorted I am pretty sure all religious centers will be able to open freely without any hassles or limitations.

I have also been enjoying worship services from home and making the best of it and I am sure a lot of people have been doing the same as well although, I also do miss gathering together with people who share the same faith with me to worship but then I could still work with that for safety purposes and although I do understand the view of people who feel opening the Church is not so big a deal and does not increase the dangers of spreading the Corona Virus more than it currently is, I would like to believe that the government knows what they are doing and will make the decisions they see is in the best interests of everyone. So I would implore us to use this time to continue worshipping with our families from wherever is safest till churches are open again, and also stay as safe as we can when heading out especially to public spaces.

Have an amazing week and #StaySafe.
